For you can't hear Irish tunes without knowing you're Irish, and wanting to pound that fact into the floor.

About This Quote

I was born in Ireland and my family has been part of the Irish community for generations. We lived in England for a few years when I was growing up and that's when I first discovered my love for Irish music. When we returned to Ireland we would spend our weekends at Irish festivals and fairs, and my mother and I both knew that we had to learn the music and dance the dances. While in England, we had listened to Irish music but never experienced it first hand.

We weren't Irish, so we didn't know what we were missing. Whenever we heard an Irish song, we would ask each other what type of instrument it sounded like and try to figure out what the song was about - all while trying to figure out how to dance the jig or reel. Once we were back in Ireland, it was like we fell into a trance.

Every time we heard an Irish song it would take over our lives and take us back to where we came from.
